IMG_0153Today, on my birthday I am launching a new endeavor;  it combines my desire to help out those in need with my creativity as a seamstress. I will be making baby bags from used Blue-jeans to give to needy mothers. The bags will be filled with (2) fleece blankets, (2) flannel blankets, (1) changing pad, and (3) wash cloths, made from new and recycled materials. My hope is to raise enough money by selling the bags to purchase materials to create more bags … so, for every bag I sell I will be able to donate one bag to a needy mother.

More details will be posted on where the bags can be purchased when I get a sufficient number made  …  stay tuned.

The US government should subsidize the installation of free solar panels to every citizen of this country. Individuals would still pay their local power companies for electricity and in turn the power companies would pay a federal tax to help offset the cost of the free solar panels supplied to the consumer. The massive amount of green-power that could be generated using this method would make a tremendous reduction in our carbon footprint. Working together, we can as a nation make a significant impact on climate change due to the excessive use of fossil fuels.

Another method of raising funds to help pay for the free solar panels could be gathered from a “Green Tax” levied on Cannabis sales. If the federal government were to legalize Marijuana like the states of Colorado and Washington have done, a green-tax could be imposed on it for the sole purpose of creating green-power. As it is, Marijuana prohibition costs this country billions of dollars in enforcement, and imprisonment, both on the state and federal level. It’s time to wise up and earn money from a harmless plant that is medically beneficial, instead of going into debt by keeping it illegal.

Just imagine, as Marijuana lights up people’s minds, and the sun lights up solar panels, our country could light up its homes with green-power! There are so many people like myself who would love to contribute to creating green-power, but are prohibited from doing so due to the high cost of purchasing and installing solar panels, even with the tax incentives that are already in place. Together, we as a nation, with the power of the sun can make it happen!

Go Green Power, Go Sun Power!

phil2imagesIn light of the recent Duck Dynasty uproar, I have been confronted in my wanderings around the internet with the numerous reasons why Phil Robertson supporters are outraged by what they see as a great injustice done to him. Focusing for the moment on his sharp and judgmental opinions on homosexuality summed up in the quote below from his interview with GQ magazine.

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong. Sin becomes fine,” he later added. “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Those who feel the need to defend Phil Robertson, use his Christian faith and freedom of speech as the point which they feel he is being attacked on. But when one begins to dissect the problem it lies with neither freedom of speech nor his Christian faith, after all Phil had no problem expressing his distaste for the gay lifestyle, or his belief in the anti-homosexual passages in the Bible … ending his tirade with the statement that “It’s not right”.

The common sentiment expressed by many Christians and Phil himself is that he was just sharing his belief in the Bible as god’s word and he’s being attacked for his faith. Well, it’s not quite that simple, especially when he inserted the judgment call of “It’s not right” in his interview. The bottom line is that it’s none of Phil business what lifestyles others choose to live, and he should have kept his opinions to himself if he didn’t want to be called out on it. Just because the book of doctrines and the god he chooses to believe in condemns homosexuality does not mean it is right. We all live in a country whose constitution guarantees our individual right to the pursuit of happiness, regardless of ones sexual preference. Christians seem to be so focused on Phil’s right to disparage a person’s lifestyle that they seem to forget they live in a country where they are allowed to practice a religion that condemns and labels the sexual preference of others as “sin”.
