Exposing the Biased Nature of the Biblegod…

I became a Christian in my mid twenties, mostly because I finally found a place to posit the god I believed in from the time I was a small child. I was not raised in a Christian home, but developed a very close relationship with what I thought (through my own personal experience) was the creator of everything. This god of my childhood made me feel protected and secure so it was enlightening to finally find out about (what I thought was) his real nature through the Bible when I became a Christian. From the beginning of my Christian walk I encountered many problems with what I found written in the Bible (what I thought at the time was god’s word), but usually was able to explain away the immoralities and contradictions, or justify them to some degree. Things that I couldn’t resolve I simply set aside for another time. My Christian walk continued in that manner for around twenty eight years, till I was in my early fifties and for all that time I was able to justify my belief by isolating myself from opposing viewpoints. Because I mapped the god of my childhood onto the Christian god it never occurred to me to question the validity of his existence anymore then I would think to question the existence of my parents. God’s existence to me was just an aspect of reality and the Bible was his guide book, but all that changed in late 2009 when my husband and I began to ask questions. My questioning led me to look deeper into many of the previous problems that I had formerly pushed aside, one of which was the extreme male bias exhibited throughout the entire Bible. It was when I decided to face those problems head on that my Christian world began to crumble around me.

Little by little as I opened my eyes to the reality that lay beyond my sheltered environment of religious belief, rays of truth broke through and a whole new perspective opened up before me. I couldn’t have imagined that life outside my belief in god was so inspiring and refreshing. I was hungry for knowledge like a child asking “why” and “how come” in response to everything they encounter. It seemed there weren’t enough hours in the day to find time for all the ideas I wished to explore. How thankful I am to be alive at a time when the internet provides me with access to an unlimited amount of knowledge for the discriminating mind. I have learned the value of questioning and to be “A skeptic”. Skepticism has taught my mind the art of critical thinking, to reason and care deeply about truth.

The booklet that follows is some of the things I discovered when I used the power of reason to find the truth. This journey I have taken into light and freedom was not something I would have imagined in my wildest dreams, but I am so glad to be here where every breath is fresh and the skies are open. I realize no one can take this journey from faith to freedom until they are ready. It is my heartfelt desire that maybe through reading this book your eyes will be opened and you will experience the freedom I have. The one thing I would like to stress is that above all else…question everything  just as you did when you were a child. Needing a god to believe in is something left over from the infancy of our race when there were so many “unknowns” and gods were needed to explain them, but now it is time to grow up and put aside childish thinking. One of the first steps I took was acknowledging the fact that the god of the Bible is biased, he is untrustworthy and he is not just. Acknowledging the fact that if god truly does exist there is no rule that says he has to be trustworthy, or fair anymore than your father’s existence means he must be trustworthy or fair. Anything that exists must be believed simply because it exists, whether or not we like it.

When I took that first step of accepting the fact that the god portrayed in the Bible is extremely biased against women, is neither fair nor just, and acts in immoral ways … I was well on my way to freedom. What the Bible says about the nature of god must be acknowledged and accepted instead of trying to use our own sense of morality to justify god’s actions. The mere fact that we as humans can use our own innate sense of morality, should enlighten our minds to the fact that knowing right and wrong are part of what makes us human. We can and should use our intellect to critically analyze our beliefs instead of swallowing what’s given us “hook line and sinker”. Once I saw the true nature of the biblical god, it only took a relatively short period of time to wake up to the brute fact that was staring me in the face … the biblical god was man made.

The heartfelt cause I am committed to fighting against is; the oppression of women in the name of religion. Any religion that denies the human rights of women and oppresses them should be exposed as a false teaching and condemned. One thing that all people share is their humanness and as such are entitled to equal human rights. Any religion or belief system that denies equality to all people is wrong. The world will never be healed if half of its population continues to be  hurt and oppressed by the other half. My goal in writing this booklet is not to try and deprive people of their religious beliefs, but rather to open their minds to skeptical thinking, and to not merely believe what one is told. It is important for each and every one of us to find out what we believe and why.

  • Marc:

This was a wonderful, thoughtful and enlightening post.

What is saddening were the people slating you for dissing their “god”.

Two things seem to be coming into play here: (a) dunning-kruger syndrome (the less they know about the bible, the more they THINK they know) and (b) cognitive dissonance. That’s when two conflicting thoughts enter your head – bible=good vs. bible=bad.

Invariably, the existing “meme” as Dawkins calls it wins; simply because it was there first.

    • Rose:

      Hi Marc
Thank you for taking time to comment, readers thoughts are always very much appreciated by me. :-)

A third thing that I think comes into play is the deep down fear people have of questioning the god they believe in … if they have doubts they will be punished.

  • Josef Sefton:

Rose, it doesn’t make sense to think that the Giver of life would create women to think less well of them compared to men. The Creator thinks equally well of both women and men. Their roles are different but they are equally important in His eye

    God bless you!

    • Rose:

      Hi Josef,

Thanks for taking time to comment. You are exactly right! It doesn’t make sense for a giver of life to be arbitrarily biased against women who are themselves creators of life, and that is preciously how I know that the Biblegod could not possibly be the creator of life. The Biblegod is made up in the minds of men.

The Bible, which was written by men is chock full of gender bias perpetrated by the male god its authors created. Not only are the roles of women different, but also their status as the property of men shows that there is no equality for women in the Bible.

      Take care,
      Rose

  • Hi Rose,
Just stumbled upon your Blog and read some of your and Richard’s new found “freedom from god” so to speak. What comes to mind concerning your blog is this: how does the GOD of the Bible love woman less, when He commands the husband to LOVE the wife but to the wife He say : Respect your husband. Ephesians 5. He also says: LOVE your wife the way CHRIST loves THE CHURCH (HIS Bride). We all know that Christ was crucified and died on the cross for What, Who, Whom, Why? He became Sin for us so that we might stand before GOD ALMIGHTY washed in the Blood of the Lamb, pure and white as snow, being admitted into Heaven. Do we deserve it? NO. Can we reject it? Absolutely. Free Will.
Hope to hear from the two of you. I actually had another question for Richard conc. the website he built for me. Maybe he could contact me. With His all consuming Love, Shalom to both of you
    Monique

  • Rose:

    Hi Monique,

Nice to hear from you! Glad you took time to comment. If you read my article you will notice that I started in the Old Testament and worked my way through the New, showing how the whole Bible is saturated with gender bias. As to the specific question you asked concerning Paul’s statement in Ephesians, the bias is quite clear. First, notice the discrepancy in how wives are to relate to their husbands, they are told to submit and be subject to his rule, which is clearly not a sign of equality. Wives are not children who need to be under the authority of a parent. Marriage is a partnership of equality, both parties share a relationship of mutual love and respect.

I understand that Paul was writing from a different culture and time period where women were not thought of as equal to a man, and many times considered the property of the man, which is why it is so evident that the Bible was written from the minds of men propagating their ideas of control. All men and women share the quality of being human, and as such are deserving of equal human rights, which the Bible is sorely lacking in, this in and of itself shows that the god portrayed in the Bible is NOT just.

I will relay your message to Richard and I’m sure he will be contacting you soon. Keep the comments coming, I love them.

    Take care,
    Rose

  • Hi Rose,

Thanks for acknowledging my post. I have not written much about God, my walk with Him etc. as of late. I hope you don’t mind me “telling my story”. I fell in LOVE with Y’SHUA when I surrendered my life to Him after my beautiful house I owned in Florida burnt to the ground. I did not know much about Religion besides the fact that I was raised Roman Catholic in Switzerland, where I grew up.
The person who “brought me to the LORD” was a very unlikely candidate for GOD’s work, since he had alcohol and drug problems. But he could preach like Billy Graham Nr 2. I said the sinner’s prayer (although I was Catholic and “believed” in Jesus but did not know about “being saved”).
I started reading the Bible from the beginning with the goal to read all the way to the end. Alas, I got to the passage of God destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, with only 3 people saved, Lot and his two daughters. When the daughters gave wine to Lot and proceeded to have relations with him, I quit reading the Word of God.
However, I did not quit on Y’SHUA. I attended Church and read books and testimonies from Christians. For 6 years the LORD walked with me, talked with me, helped me, till the fateful day – 7/22/96 – when I had a simple question about the Bible. I wanted to know where it said “White as Snow” in HIS WORD. I could not find it. I checked in the index of my pink bible. No mention. But in the middle of the Night I had to get up, so I grabbed my bible, opened it and started reading… Psalm 45, Psalm 46, Psalm 47 etc. to Psalm 51:7 : Wash me and I shall be Whiter than Snow”! All on the same 2 pages! Wow. To this day I remember the WOW.
I asked and HE showed me. From that day on for the next 14 years I read the bible every single day; sometimes for 30 minutes, sometimes for 8 hours, sometimes for 10 minutes. And I would talk to the LORD and ask Him to show me in HIS WORD what He wanted me to see. Sometimes the Holy Spirit would prompt me to turn on a Christian Program; I would open my bible and read a verse (Luke 1:28) and within seconds the Pastor opens his bible and says: “Let’s go to Luke 1:28). My daily prayer was to walk with the LORD every second of the day. And He walked with me and gave me signs and wonders, almost daily.
I connected with you in early 2007 I believe through the Bible Wheel. I thought then and still think that Richard is amazing and the Bible Wheel has hidden messages. The real message however is that GOD so LOVED the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall NOT perish but have everlasting life.
I have walked with Him all these years, raised my two children by myself, had my business, witnessed to those who had ears to hear and eyes to see. I read the bible every single day from 7/22/96 through hard times (lost my lease in 1998: no income, house in foreclosure etc) but I hung onto the WORD OF GOD and the HOLY SPIRIT and went where the Holy SPIRIT led me. At the prompting of the Holy Spirit I attended an Orthodox Synagogue, kept the Sabbath Holy, learned about the Fasts, Feasts and Festivals on the Jewish Calendar, received the Mikvah on 5 occasions at that Synagogue; and I kept learning and studying and writing letters to the Rabbi about the Old and the New, about Y’SHUA and His Love for the House of Israel and the House of Judah. His Good plan (Ezekiel 37:15-28; Jeremiah 31:31; Amos 9:11; etc).Every year since 1998 I have built a Sukkah for the Feast of Tabernacle (Sukkot), I have lit Hanukkah candles and I have cooked Kosher meals and kept the Passover. I learned much during my days at the Synagogue.
And God said: Let there be light and there was light Genesis 1:3; In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God… John 1:1. The same was in the beginning with God. (2) All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the LIGHT of men. (3-4). The light shines in the darkness…(5); That was the true Light which lighteth every man that comes into the world (9); He was in the world and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. (10) He came unto his own and his own received him not (11). But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name; (12) Which was born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.(13) And the WORD was made flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.
I attended a Barmitvah in that Orthodox Synagogue and the young man was interpreting the Bible contrary to what the WORD said. He claimed God created everything on the first day and I wondered why the Rabbi would allow him to totally disregard the text and make up his own creation story. I built my case to the Rabbi beginning with “Let there be Light”… to John 1:1-14, to Saul and the Light from Heaven that blinded him for three days and asked: Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? Only to send Ananias with the words “Saul, receive your sight”, by accepting Y’shua as Messiah and Saul’s sight was restored.
Well, I asked Rabbi Goldberger to receive his sight and accept Y’shua as Messiah… The result was that I was now no longer allowed to attend the Synagogue but threatened with arrest if I dared to come back. I was heartbroken. The LORD had given me a LOVE for the Jewish People and an obedient spirit to Pray for Peace to Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). Then the Spirit said : Now you go back to … I obeyed. but more on that next time.
Rose, you and Richard are such wonderful talented writers, I feel like a child, but then God says we must come to Him like “little Children” full of trust. In closing: I heard the voice of the LORD audibly on 11/25/96: DO YOU TRUST ME? DO YOU TRUST ME? Those were His words in my empty house, audible, from above. I raised my head at the second “DO YOU TRUST ME” and I screamed : “Of course I trust YOU, who else can I TRUST?” Trust in the LORD with All your heart, do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge HIM and HE will direct your paths”. Lord I trust YOU with all my heart.
Blessings from above from my house to yours.

    • Rose:

      Hi again Monique,

Thanks for sharing your story. I totally understand where you are coming from and why you place your trust in god, but for many the experience is quite different. In their times of need, their desperate pleas to god have gone unanswered, they feel forsaken and they are left with shattered lives to put back together on their own. These are the people I wish to reach, and share with them that they are not abandoned by god, because the Biblegod does not exist. It is far better to realize that bad things naturally happen in the world, NOT because of Satan or because god is not answering your prayer. We are the only ones that can change our own lives and help the lives of others.

The god portrayed in the Bible (especially the Old Testament) is not a kind and loving god, he is quite the opposite. When I opened my eyes to what the Bible really says, I was astounded by its brutality, bias and injustice. This is what led me on the path out of the faith that I had held for nearly 28 years. How could a true god decree the murder and rape of women and children as is stated in the Bible? The realization that this was the kind of god I worshiped sickened me and changed my life.

My Blog is the story of my transition out of the Christian faith, even though when I started it I had no idea this is where I would end up. My hope is to make the world a kinder and gentler place where all people are treated as equals. Religions only tend to separate people into different camps, who feel their beliefs are superior to others, causing untold suffering.

My answer to your plea of “Who else can I trust?” would be; trust in yourself, let your inner strength and compassion be your guide. Who has always been there through every trial in your life? You have! It’s been wonderful chatting with you. :-)

      Take care,
      Rose

  • Rose, the God portrayed in the Bible, both the Old Testament and the New Testament, is a kind and loving God!

There is no other God apart from Him!

He is love and He is the only totally reliable teacher.

Let Him teach you, Rose, that He is gracious, loving and forgiving!

Stop focusing on some of His decisions and actions and start focusing on His teaching! Fall in love with Him as a teacher, then He can reveal to you when you are ready some of the deeper mysteries why He punishes and takes human life!

Start with Jesus Christ! Start with the Messiah. Start at Mathew 5.

Start with the correct understanding that the Son of God was and is a real person who can bless man!

Start trusting obeying His words, then God will bless you with more interest to take Him seriously as a real person!

Decide to make 2014 a breakthrough year for yourself by letting the LORD teach you instead of coming up yourself with wrong insights into the God of the Bible!

God is alive. Don’t cling to the wrong belief that He isn’t!

May the only true God, the God of the Bible, continue to bless you with a love for truth! His beloved sinless Son is the truth!

    Hello Josef,

You said “Stop focusing on some of His decisions and actions and start focusing on His teaching! ”

Haven’t you heard the saying “Actions speak louder than words”? The many immoral actions and decisions attributed to the Biblegod speak far louder than any teaching you might be thinking of. From cover to cover the Bible is filled with the horrendous actions and biased decisions attributed to its god … that in and of itself is enough to discredit any teaching it may contain.

The Bible is a book written by primitive, superstitious men who ideas were based on ignorance of the world around them, and thus should be tossed into the dustbin of history. The only thing the Bible is good for is to give us an historical record of how primitive men thought.

    Take care,
    Rose

  • Greetings Rose!
What man needs to understand is that his actions and his thinking are interlinked.

God’s thinking and His actions are also interlinked. He acts justly because His thinking is pure.

Self willed man, on the other hand acts unjustly, because his thinking is impure!

Rose, self willed men and women need rescuing! Not only do they need to be forgiven, but their thinking needs to be purified.

Abraham, Moses and David not only recognized this, but turned to the right person, the only person, the God of the Old Testament who is also the God of the New Testament, for guidance and help.

They cried out for mercy because they sensed that they needed to be forgiven. Truly man’s urgent need for forgiveness hasn’t changed!

Man needs a Savior. Christ is Savior. Turn to the good, loving Shepherd whose heart’s desire is to seek and save the lost. Turn to the treasured Teacher of Teachers for He longs to teach you!

    • Rose:

      Hello Josef,

My motivation for writing “Gender Bias in the Bible” was to expose the extreme inequality and injustice found in the Bible. My desire is for all humans to have equal rights and justice, not just a select few as the Bible promotes. People need to be made aware of just how biased the Bible is against women, and how unfairly they are treated.

The truly sad thing is that people who are trapped in religious thinking will try and justify the most horrendous and immoral acts if their sacred texts declare that god decreed it. Great harm has been done to women and men because of biblical doctrines that deny equality and justice to them, all because of the primitive ideas of ancient men.

I for one, could teach the Biblegod, and Jesus many things about what is good and what is just. I could also teach all the authors of the Bible that all humans are equal and deserving of equal human rights … no matter what their race, gender, or sexual orientation!

      Equality and Justice for All,
      Rose

  • Equality and justice can only be found in submitting our will to the will of the God of the Bible!
Only when man loves Him wholeheartedly will he consistently speak and behave justly!

Rose, the Lord God doesn’t disempower but empower. He is love and love empowers. His love empowers both men and women. He is wise and wisdom empowers!

He doesn’t prefer men over women, but loves them both equally!

Rose, more people need to be made aware of just how unbiased the Bible is against women, and how fairly and justly they are treated!

Sinful man or sinfuI woman is totally ill equiped to teach himself/herself, let alone His/Her Maker.
Neither man nor woman can teach himself/herself the way of peace, because he or she doesn’t know it!

This is the situation, Rose. You are completely overestimating your capabilities!

Man or woman can’t do anything without the God of the Bible. Without His loving support we would immediately die! He coordinates everything pertaining to our lives.
We are powerless to do good or act justly, unless He blesses us to do this!
    Enjoy your Bible studies!

    • Rose:

      Hello Josef,

You said: “Rose, more people need to be made aware of just how unbiased the Bible is against women, and how fairly and justly they are treated!”

My, oh my, it is truly amazing just how deluded some people are! I sure hope you are not a judge by profession, because no one could be treated fairly under your idea of justice. There is a lot of merit to the saying “There is none so blind as he who will not see”, which applies appropriately to you.

You need to open your eyes to the truth and see that the teachings of the Bible are not good, nor are they just or fair.

      Regards,
      Rose

  • Rose, no one is infallible, except the God of the holy Bible!

Holy is a fitting description of this most wonderful of books because it is inspired by a holy God.

Your teaching, Rose, that the God of the Bible is someone man has invented isn’t correct.

Man needs to be taught that it is man who is blind not His Maker!
Rose, the good Shepherd has opened my eyes to the truth, so that I can see very clearly that the teachings of the Bible are good, just, wise and life- enhancing!

They are words of life given to us, as a gracious present, from the Author of life!

You too can decide to enjoy studying them!

  • Rose:

    Hello Josef,

You said: “the good Shepherd has opened my eyes to the truth, so that I can see very clearly that the teachings of the Bible are good, just, wise and life- enhancing!”

Is hating yourself and your family what you call a good and wise teaching?

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

    Kind regards,
    Rose

  • Rose, we need to grasp what the subject of this verse is. It is about being a disciple of the Messiah. He mentions some of the types of relationships that can hinder us from becoming His disciple.

Before someone becomes a disciple of Jesus the relationships which are generally most important to them are marriage and family related. He is teaching that even our love for our husband must not exceed our love for Him!

Likewise our love for our parents must not exceed our love for Him. If it does we can’t be His disciple, for God’s word commands man to love the Lord above all our other loves!

  • Greetings Rose,
In order to understand Luke 14:26 we need to study the Bible to understand God’s thinking on each important word mentioned.

We know that God commands us im Exodus 20 to honor our father and mother. We know also that we can’t honor them by hating them because hating begets hating.

So when Jesus used the verb hate in this verse it isn’t to be taken literally!

Sinless Jesus didn’t teach us to hate our parents.

Loving Jesus taught us to honor them! And when we trust and obey Him He empowers us to do this!

So, dear readers, we are not to hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters or our own life.

But if we think loving our wife and children is more important than being Jesus’ disciple then we can’t be His disciple.

If we hold onto cherishing our own life lived independently of God, then that self willed way of thinking prevents someone from being His disciple.

Jesus is the life and desires to give us a new life lived in His strength!

Desire to come to Jesus, for He is the good shepherd! Let Him teach you!

  • Greetings Rose!

The gift of a generous life span shows that the Lord is generous.

Dear readers, Almighty God isn’t stingy with His love for women!

The very opposite is true. His gift to them of the ability to have children shows how important they are in His eyes!

He offers both men and women the gift of salvation demonstrating His compassion for both sexes.

He is no respecter of persons. He doesn’t put men before women.

Truly the living Lord, the Lord who inspired the Bible, is worthy of praise for His great love toward both men and women!

    Enjoy your Bible studies!
